Camp Latonka

For over 55 years, Girl Scout Camp Latonka has provided a creative, educational opportunity for
group living in the outdoors.  Two indoor facilities (with heat/a-c) and three screened cabin units
are available for reservations by troops, families and other groups. Located in a scenic cove
on Lake Wappapello, Camp Latonka is a great outdoor sanctuary for all nature lovers.

Troop Camping - Camp Latonka is available for troop use for day or overnight camping trips. (see below) Click here to see camp calendar for days that are available.

Resident Camp - Camp Latonka offers a sustained camping experience for girls during June and July. Sessions vary in length, interests and abilities. Resident camp is staffed by hired seasonal unit leaders and program consultants. Camp folders are mailed to registered Girl Scout members of Cotton Boll Council in the spring and registration opens April 1st.

Service and Supplies - Volunteers are always in need to provide repair work, painting, cleaning, moving equipment, etc. We often have troops, families or individuals who wish to donate needed items. To volunteer your time or find out what items are on the camp’s wish list, please contact Verla Shaw, Property Manager, at 573-222-8340.

SERVICE PROJECTS

Like anything else, Camp Latonka requires a lot of time and attention to keep everything in safe operating order. Families, Service Units and Troops are always welcome to offer their services in keeping Camp Latonka maintained. Repair work, painting, cleaning, moving equipment, these are just a few of the needed services that volunteers can provide each year.

Several troops also use part of their cookie proceeds to purchase kitchen towels, brooms, first aid supplies or cleaning supplies, as part of a service project. To volunteer your time or to find out what items are on camp’s wish list, please contact Verla Shaw, Property Manager, at 573-222-8340, the council office at 1-888-780-8373

Service Unit & Troop Camping

For just $10 troops and service units can enjoy fall, winter or spring camping at Latonka. Host your spring awards banquet in the Rec Hall, work on your outdoor cooking skills, or simply plan a weekend for winding the old trails.

Troop House

We've got just two words for you...heat and flushies! The new shower and toilet facilities are not only handicapped accessible but indoors!

Old House

The troop house isn't the only building on Camp Latonka to have heat! The two story Old House down by the lake can also be kept toasty warm. A nearby latrine serves as toilet facility, although this building does have an indoor shower stall

Both the Troop House and the Old House feature full service kitchens with dishes, pots and pans. (When you pack your supplies, don't forget paper towels, ziploc bags, aluminum foil, etc...). Mattresses are provided, and both buildings sleep around 25 people. Each building features a fireplace and an outdoor fire circle for campfires.

Cabin Units

If you're planning to use the cabin units, remember that the showerhouse facilities are closed November 1- April 1.

Don't forget the other buildings on camp may be available for use with special permission. Contact the office at 1-888-780-8373 for information and to make reservations or e-mail us at girlscouts@cottonbollgirlscouts.org
